Alabama
Alabama has seen a wave of gun violence that has ultimately affected the state as a whole. Studies have shown that the state's economic costs of crime are about $3.8 Billion per year or $1,135 per person. This is due to medical bills, lost wages, as well as property damage. In 2020 the crime rate in Alabama went up by 9%. This was mainly crimes such as burglary and tax crimes, but they also saw an increase in violent crimes. They expect this number to increase as the population does in the state. Alabama as a whole is the 4th highest state with violent crimes. For every 1000 people in the state 5.96 will be affected by a violent crime and 25 for every 1000 when it comes to property crimes. This is why the city's development is so behind in some areas of Alabama. A movie about phenix city in Alabama talked about how gamblers and organized crime ran the city in the early 1950's. Although it isn't as bad as it once was, the crime rate is still relevant in the city and continues to rise.
